Showing My Disney Side – Minnie Mouse
by Sunny
A while ago, I was in Kohl’s when a promotional sign for the new live-action Cinderella movie caught my eye. Being the Disney fan that I am, I walked over to the display rack and mannequins and was surprised to find juniors dresses inspired by the new feature film. Juniors? I thought. Would teenage girls actually wear Cinderella-inspired clothing? Turns out they will. The racks were swarming with people. When I got home, I went to the Kohl’s website and noticed a whole line of Cinderella-inspired dresses, skirts and tops for women by designer Lauren Conrad.
Interesting.
That’s when the idea hit. Could I dress in Disney character inspired clothing in everyday life? Would I look silly? Juvenile? Like I was playing dress up? I decided to find out and share my outfits and muses in this series of blog posts. First up, my all-time favorite: Minnie Mouse.
The Character: Minnie Mouse
The Style: Minnie’s a classic girl. She goes for the flirty dress and heels, and the cute all-over polka dot pattern matches her bubbly personality. Although Minnie’s style has evolved over the years, I think she is most recognizable like this:
My Look: Luckily, I am also a fan of polka dots so I pulled out this black and white polka-dot dress with the pick-up skirt. I switched out the black belt I usually wear for a bright, plastic yellow one that mimics Minnie’s heels. I decided to use the classic Minnie red in my shoe choice: heels, of course! Minnie wouldn’t have it any other way!
The Reactions: I didn’t tell anyone I was channeling my inner Minnie when I picked out this outfit, and although one of my students commented that my belt reminded her of duct tape (!) the results were positive:
Number of people who offered compliments: 15
Number of people who said I reminded them of an oversized talking mouse: 0
Success!
Stay tuned for my next Disney Muse: Belle
Do you have a favorite Disney character that you think I should channel? (And no, I am not going to dress up like Baymax or Buzz Lightyear!) Leave your suggestions in the comments section!
Not sure how you will actually put this together but I always thought you would make a great Alice!
Alice is officially on my list! Good idea, Dad!
Totally Mulan!!!! I love the colors!
Yes! I love Mulan! I am up for the challenge!
BTW, I don’t know if I was one if the 15 that complimented you, but I loved that Minnie outfit!
