So as a big surprise to no one, we visited a Disney Park during Spring Break. We chose Disneyland this year for several reasons: the weather, the smaller crowds, the ability to walk between parks, and the fact that Disneyland is still celebrating its 60th Anniversary. While we usually visit Walt Disney World in Florida, this wasn’t our first time to Disneyland. But it was the first trip that Jimmy’s mom had ever been to a Disney Park. Ever! We spent our three days in Disneyland well, mixing the classics with the brand new attractions.
Let’s start with the classics. Those iconic rides and attractions that last year after year in Disney Parks. I think what always surprises me most is that The Mad Tea Party, Peter Pan’s Flight, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride, and Dumbo are still relevant and loved 60 years later. And no matter what, you can count on classic Disney snacks such as Mickey Waffles, Mickey Head Ice Cream, and Churros!
Visiting the classic, beloved characters are always top of MJ’s list as well. She’s never passed up an opportunity to get a hug and high five from Mickey or Minnie.
While some of the rides and characters seem to basically stay the same, some of the classics were given a twist for the 60th anniversary celebration. For one, Mickey, Minnie, and their crew had special 60th anniversary outfits just for the occasion.
The old favorite, the Electric Light Parade, has gotten a total makeover. New floats, new light technology, and new characters have really taken this parade to the next level. While we rarely stop for the afternoon parades in Disney, we always make the nighttime parades a priority. They are unbelievable and never disappoint! If you haven’t seen the Disneyland Paint the Night Parade, you should! It was my favorite part of the Disneyland 60th anniversary celebration!
Walt Disney is quoted as saying, “Disneyland will never be complete. It will continue to grow as long as there is imagination left in the world.” So Disney does continue to grow and change and update with the times. I think the addition of the many Star Wars attractions is a prime example. MJ loved the Star Tours attraction in Walt Disney World last year and was happy to see it in Disneyland as well. MJ rode Space Mountain for the first time this trip, although in Disneyland, the attraction has been changed to Hypespace Mountain and now has a Star Wars soundtrack and effects. MJ was also lucky enough to take part in the Jedi Training Trials of the Temple where she learned lightsaber techniques and even got to dual with Darth Vader!
What is your favorite Disney Park classic? What new addition are you looking forward to seeing at the Disney Parks? Share with me in the comments!
I’ve never been to Disney, but when I do I want to go with you all!
I also like how the churro looks almost as big as the statue.
Maizey, I love the new ears this year!
