I’m not really a fan of January resolutions, but think there is some value in looking back on the highlights of a previous year and thinking ahead to life in the next 12 months. What do I want to maintain? What do I want to change?
One of my constant resolutions is to keep travel a priority. Each year brings a different combination of results, including weekend getaways and day trips, visits with friends and family, successfully booking international flights with award miles, introducing a favorite place to someone else, learning to pack light, and discovering new beaches, cities and countries. Every year, I am grateful for the experiences and motivated to keep it up.
My new resolution revolves around technology and creating a blog where my family and I can have fun writing stories and sharing recommendations – and travel planning, reminiscing and dreaming will be a big part of the site. Since going abroad during college, I always pack a notebook and pen to keep a travel journal, but now I also send texts, emails and photos to my family during a trip. They do the same on their jaunts – and reading the updates is the next best thing to being there. I love reading articles and reviews when researching an upcoming destination, so participating in the online community seemed like a natural step.
However, I’m not a techie (and a little social media shy)! So while the travel resolution is kind of easy, the blog is a challenge. My sisters and I are trying to get the show on the road – or in other words, publish actual content. We’re still learning, and it’s probably going to be slow going at first.
My goal is to start with a few posts that will hopefully be amusing as you consider your own travel plans for 2015. They include suggestions for one-week itineraries in Spain, notes on an awesome all-inclusive resort, a few random thoughts on eating and drinking in Europe, and a report from my first ski vacation out West.
Did you make any resolutions this year? Any off to a slow start, like mine? At least it’s still January! Happy 2015!
